This is a city where almost all the streets have got no names and any address here consists of 3 numbers. This is Aktau city which has its unique block address system. Aktau is a city with approximately 200,000 citizens located on the banks of the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan. Word meaning of Aktau is 'White Mountain', but this name came only after 1991. From 1964 to 1991 this city was called Shevchenko. The current name Caspian Sea is probably because of the city's cliffs that overlook the Caspian sea. Now as mentioned above Aktau is unique for its Block address system. Generally an address here consists of 3 numbers. One for district number, one for building number and one for Apartment number. This address system is in place because the city was originally planned as camps for the Oil industry workers.

This second largest city in Western Kazakhstan has almost all streets without a name. Aktau is also Kazakhstan's main sea port.Aktau in ancient times was on route of Silk road and saw founding of many Sufi shrines near and around Aktau city. City was very less populated unless it came under Soviet rule. In 1964 City was named Shevchenko after Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. Aktau today is a city of approximately 200,000 citizens located on the banks of the Caspian sea  in Kazakhstan, Central Asia.

Aktau is small but young and refreshing. The architectures here are mainly of Soviet era time. In modern times there are malls and public recreational areas. The main attraction of the city is Caspian sea and walking along its long beach is great experience to have. Some sites that you should visit while you are in Aktau are World War II Eternal Flame Memorial in a shape reminiscent of a traditional yurt, MiG Monument at the Victory Mall, Regional Studies and History Museum, The Drama Theatre, Yntymak Square, Monuments of Famous people of the past: Kashagan, Zhalau Mynbayev and Taras Shevchenko.
