Golf Tourism in CIS Countries

Emerging Paradise for GOLFERS

Golf being one of the universal games, has fan following and players across the globe. CIS countries are no exception. Golf courses are known for their exquisite and challenging designing. One may find some exotic golf courses in the CIS nations, leading to golf tourism rapidly gaining pace in the region.

The Skolkovo Golf Club in Moscow, Russia is 20 km south-west of the Red Square and only lets in members and their guests. Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, 50 km outside Moscow, is massive with 1,000 acre sports facility, an 18 hole-golf course, private ski slope, hunting club, polo club, and luxury spa. It stands exclusive for the members and their guests. The Golf & Yacht Club Pestovo is 20 miles north of Moscow and lets in visitors if they call beforehand. The course is spread out over 7,000 yards and is suitable for all level of golfers. The Zavidovo PGA National, an 18-hole Golf course made to cater to professionals is 120 km north-west of Downtown Moscow. The Moscow Country Club, which is about 25 km north-west of Moscow City Centre, is a 300-acre property with a 131 room hotel with the best in class amenities.

The Superior Golf & Spa Resort and the Kiev Golf Club are the Best Golf courses in Ukraine. The former is only 13 km north of the Kharkov City Centre. This club does not have any restrictions on who can enter, as all the guests are welcome. It is an 18-hole course. The latter also welcomes guests and is 38 miles west of Kiev City Centre along the E40/M06.

The Nurtau Golf Club is the only golf club in Kazakhstan, good enough to be mentioned to international tourists. Every guest is welcome. This club was set up in 1996 with a 9-hole course. Later on, it was extended to an 18-hole course.

Uzbekistan is home to the Tashkent Lakeside Golf Club, which was designed, constructed, operated, and looked after by Koreans. As the name goes, water plays a big role in this course and poses quite a challenge.

The Dreamland Golf Club and the National Azerbaijan Golf Club are the Best Golf courses in Azerbaijan. The former is only 15-minute drive from the Baku International Airport. This club is open to everyone. Opened in September 2013, the National Azerbaijan Golf Club is mere 2kms south of Quba. The golf course measures 7,011 yards and hosts the Azerbaijan Golf Challenge Open. It is also the HQ of the National Golf Federation but still lets in visitors, provided they call beforehand.

Armenia, a neighbour of Azerbaijan, has struggled physically, and economically since their independence in 1991. Golf being rated as a sports of the rich, golf is not very popular. However, with the formation of the Armenian Golf Federation, the Ararat Valley Golf and Country Club, a 9-hole course was built in Yerevan which is also the maiden golf course of the country.

The popularity of Golf is slowly growing in Serbia. Although they do not have any world famous golf courses, the Golf Club Belgrade near the City of Belgrade and the Golf Club Centar are two of the best 9-hole courses in the country.  

Belarus did not have a huge following of Golf, but all that changed in 2013 with the completion of the Minsk Golf Club. This country is a summer only golfing destination, as temperatures in winter fall below -20°C.

Turkmenistan got its first golf club back in 2017 when President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov had talks with former US golfer Jack Nicklaus to build a Golf Club outside the capital city of Ashgabat.

Bulgaria is home to some of the most scenic golf courses in the world. The Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort, BlackSeaRama Golf & Villas and Lighthouse Golf Resort welcome visitors.
